Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) and Golden Boy Promotions are pleased to announce the return of Quebec-based boxer David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs). The Quebec superstar will be on the undercard of one of the most awaited bouts this year, which will feature two-division world champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) against former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) on May 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After re-establishing his reputation as one of the hardest-hitting boxers on the planet after his impressive KO against Curtis Stevens, Lemieux will try to repeat the stupendous feat as he faces Mexico’s Marcos Reyes (34-4, 25 KOs) in a 10-round bout in the middleweight division.
“Following his performance against Curtis Stevens at Turning Stone Casino, HBO executives agreed right away that they wanted to see David in the ring again as soon as possible. Being part of such a tremendous card that will be featured on May 6 with eyes on us from all around the world represents an incredible showcase opportunity. We are convinced that David will shine. He is in great shape and is more motivated than ever to conquer the top of the middleweight division,” said EOTTM President Camille Estephan.
“I’m thankful to have the opportunity of being part of this event during the Cinco de Mayo celebrations. This will allow Mexicans, who are renowned boxing fans, to get to know me better,” said David Lemieux. “I think I was able to send a clear message on March 11 with my performance against Stevens and I intend to do the same on May 6. I want to make sure that everyone understands that David Lemieux is making his way towards the top and that he intends to stay there.”
The May 6 event, which will be held during the festivities of the traditional Cinco de Mayo weekend was sold out 10 days after tickets went on sale. No less than 20,048 spectators will attend this highly-anticipated evening, which will feature Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., David Lemieux against Marcos Reyes as well as Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34 KOs) against Emmanuel Taylor (20-4, 14 KOs).
